I wonder...

Costco was doing their due dilligence yesterday and let us know that we purchased a batch of the Similac formula that is on their recall list.  As some of you may or may not know Similac is doing a voluntary recall on their Similac Advanced and a few other versions of formula that were found to contain Beetle larvae and parts in the powder.  Can I just say Ew!?!?  Worse still, side effects of these bug parts/eggs being in the powder can create gastrointestinal issues for babies ingesting the formula.  Wonderfullllll

So now last night and this morning I am left wondering if maybe some of the bleeding and fussiness that we saw pre-Glenn could have had to do with this recall that whole time.  Once we gave Olivia straight breast milk, things definitely got better.  I guess we'll never really know, but just another reason to make you second guess everything that you feed or buy in the aspect of toys.

  2. Unfortunately you will always wonder... however, my thought (and I think I've posted before on this subject) is that breastmilk is best for these babies but no one is willing to let them have just plain old 20 cal/oz milk for fear of a poor outcome in the interstage. So, we struggle with reflux, GERD, vomiting, bloody stools, the dreaded GI appts, and (in my humble opinion) false diagnoses like cow's milk protein intolerance---all because of what we either add to our milk or give in its place--- because we are told that babies with HLHS will do better. Ha! I brought home a 4.5 month old, post-Glenn, on straight breastmilk and never saw another one of the symptoms that TERRORIZED us for the first months. So I feel your pain. I try not to put too much energy into those types of situations as I can't change them now; but keep spreading your story! It's important for parents to hear of success stories with breastfed babies.
